How often should I change or clean my filters?
Filters should generally be replaced every month when the system is running. Replace filters with the same kind and size as the original filter. If your filter is not disposable, follow the manufacturer instructions for cleaning.

How Long Do Central Heating And Air Conditioning Systems Last?
The average life expectancy of most equipment manufactured today is between 12 and 15 years. Top quality brands will tend to last closer to 15 years, while other brands will tend to last between 10 and 12 years. Duct systems can last anywhere from 5 to 25 years depending on the construction materials used and the quality with which it was installed. Lack of maintenance and proximity to salt air and water can greatly reduce the life span of your system.

How do I know when it's time to replace my heating or air conditioning system?
Some telltale signs:

1. Do you have hot or cold rooms in the house?A new, properly installed system can yield the same temperature from one end of the house to the other.

2. Do you have to turn up the television or stereo when your heat or a/c comes on?
With today's technology whisper quiet high efficiency equipment is available.

3. Do you throw away hundreds of dollar every year running an inefficient heating or cooling system?
If your system dates back to the Carter administration (1977-1981), or before, a new system will pay for itself in energy/fuel savings alone. Example: a 20-year old furnace operates roughly at 55% efficiency (most even less!). Replacing it with a 90% Rheem variable speed two-stage furnace will increase your AFUE to 92%. If your current gas bill is 200/mo. It would drop to $119.57/mo. That's a $80.43/mo., $965.16/yr., or $19,303.20 over the next twenty years, savings in fuel cost alone!

4. Do you have to wear a sweatshirt or wrap yourself in a blanket when you're "relaxing" at home?
Variable speed two-stage furnaces, hydro-air, and radiant heating can stop drafts in your home.

5. Do you feel that you just can't get completely comfortable in your home?
With today's technology we can get your home exactly the way you want it i.e. 70 degrees with 45% humidity, dust/pollen free filtered air, and NO DRAFTS.

What simple maintenance and troubleshooting can I do myself?
With the proper maintenance and care, your Rheem equipment will operate economically and dependably. There are a few simple, routine maintenance operations you can do to help ensure the best performance and comfort from your system.

Before you perform any kind of maintenance, consider these important safety precautions.

Disconnect all electrical power to the unit before removing access panels to perform maintenance. Please note that there may be more than one power connection switch.

Although Rheem takes special care to prevent sharp edges in the construction of our equipment, it's best to be very careful when you handle parts or reach into the units.

Before You Request A "Service Call":

Check disconnect switches (indoor and outdoor if you have a split system).
Make sure that the circuit breakers are ON or that the fuses have not blown.

Check for sufficient airflow. Make sure filters are clean and that supply-air and return-air grilles are open and unobstructed.

Check the settings on your thermostat. If you want cooling, make sure the temperature control selector is set below room temperature and the SYSTEM switch is on the COOL air AUTO position. If you want to heat, make sure the temperature control selector is set above room temperature and the SYSTEM switch is at HEAT or AUTO. The fan switch should be set at ON for continuous blower operation or AUTO if you want the blower to function only while the unit is operating.
